The Over 50 & Beautiful Project: Marnie

So excited to present the next featured Over 50 & Beautiful participant, Marnie, age 56!

Marnie reached out to me shortly after I launched the Over 50 & Beautiful Photo Project. In her first email to me explaining why she wanted to be a part of the project, she said, “50 used to be ‘old’. But these days, women like myself are celebrating their later years with big and positive life changes. We are embracing our older and wiser years and can be more beautiful than ever before. I believe that society needs to see favorable representation of aging.”

She included a selfie of herself with her email and I’m not gonna lie- I squealed when I saw her photo. With looks reminiscent of both Elizabeth Taylor and Snow White, I couldn’t wait to get her in front of my camera. The result is below, along with a few interview questions for Marnie on the topic of being a woman over 50 in our society:

1) Why did you want to be a part of the Over 50 & Beautiful Photo Project?

I think it's time to update views on aging. People are living better than previous generations, and women who feel secure in themselves radiate inner beauty. We all age...maturity should be an inspiration.

2) If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

"Never mind the beauty standards!"

When I grew up, Supermodels were tall, blonde and blue-eyed. I had to accept that I was never going to look like them, but I could make the most of what made me unique.

3) What's one thing you wish you had known about growing older?

50 is only a number, not a mindset. We don't have to accept age-based limitations.

4) When do you feel the most beautiful?

When I'm celebrating with people I love. I like to think that my laugh lines record many happy moments.

5) What’s your favourite beauty tip?

The sun is very hard on skin: limit exposure and use a good facial sunscreen!
